Juliette Lewis - Biography |
|
|
|
Feisty, sexy, cocky, unique, all
describe Juliette Lewis. She is the farthest from insecure you will ever
find. Juliette Lewis began her acting career at the age of twelve. By
fourteen, she was legally emancipated by the California courts because
child labor laws prevent child actors from working more than 5 hours on
school nights and require them to have a guardian. She wanted to pursue
her acting career full time and being legally declared an adult was the
only way that she could. At fifteen, she dropped out of high school, but
with the help of a tutor passed her equivalency exam.
She was bon on June 21st, 1973 in Los Angeles to actor Geoffrey Lewis and
graphic designer Glenis Batley. She has 11 siblings and half-siblings from
her mothers three marriages and her fathers four. Her career started in
1987 with the TV series "I Married Dora" and the Showtime mini-series
"Home Fires."
She made her film debut in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" playing
Chevy Chase's daughter. In 1991's "Cape Fear" she played a vulnerable
fifteen-year-old struggling for independence from her parents. Her
performance won her critical acclaim as well as an Academy Award and a
Golden Globe. Her filmography reads like a soap opera. She seems to
attract controversial and provocative roles and with serial-killer-psycho
films like "Kalifornia" and "Natural Born Killers" Juliette's reputation
for playing extraordinary characters was elevated.
She has appeared in over a dozen movies and has brought an ever changing,
yet rare style to each character she has played. Her performance in the
romantic drama "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" opposite Johnny Depp and
Leonardo DiCaprio showed a softer, more reflective side to her acting
ability. In "Strange Days" she plays a drug addict. Woody Allen's
"Husbands and Wives" finds her to be a precocious co-ed who has her eyes
on a much older married man.
Her eccentric styles both on and off the screen make her one of
Hollywood's most intriguing people. Her hobbies include collecting antique
clothing and documenting everyday moments with a tape recorder, in an
effort to capture reality for future use in her career. She is also a
devout member of the Church of Scientology. Her unique way of looking at
life is fascinating. Juliette has said of her appearance, "It's an ability
to look unattractive. I think I can be beautiful with all the little stuff
done, and I can be ugly. A lot of attractive actresses can't be ugly." |

Juliette Lewis - Personal Quotes |
|
|
|
"Fame can be just so annoying
because people are so critical of you. You can't just say 'hi'. You
say hi and people whisper 'Man, did you see the way she said Hi.
What an attitude.'"
"Just 'cause I'm in the same age bracket as Johnny Depp and Leo
Dicaprio doesn't mean we all screw together."
"Just to buck the system in California, I bought a Mazda for $6,000
when I was 15 without even bothering to get a license." |
