Jeri Ryan - Biography |
|
|
|
Jeri Lynn Zimmerman was born on
February 22, 1968 in Munich, Germany to her parents Sharon and Jeri
Zimmerman. Jeri has one younger brother and is an a self-professed army
brat. She was raised on military bases all over the US before her family
finally settled down in Paduch, Kentucky.
By this time, Jeri was already 11 years old and her father decided to
retire at which point her mom decided to begin her career in social work.
Because of all the moving around Jeri had done as a young child, she
learned how to become somewhat of an actress without even making an effort
since she was constantly changing schools and forced to make new friends.
Although Jeri initially wanted to be a veterinarian, her acting career
began when she was in the fourth grade whereupon she starred in Market
house Theater productions of Gracie at the Bat, Cinderella, Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (as Lucy), and The
Drunkard in the mid 80's.
In 1986, Jeri graduated at the top of her class from Lone Oak High School
with. Fittingly enough, she was voted most talented by all of her
classmates. Jeri attended Northwestern University and earned a BS in
theater.
While studying at University, Jeri won the sixth annual Miss Northwestern
Alpha Delta Phi Pageant in 1989. That same year, she won the Miss Illinois
Pageant and went came in fourth in the 1990 Miss America Pageant.
Her professional career began when she was cast as an extra in the movie
Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Unfortunately, however, the scene Jeri was
in did not make the final cut.
But soon enough, Jeri began getting call ins for auditions for television
shows and she began acting professionally right after she graduated from
University. Like most stars, she began doing some commercials in her
senior year and then got her first guest-starring role in the sitcom Who's
the Boss?, which starred Charmed vixen, Alyssa Milano.
Jeri was guest-starring on a slew of popular television shows including
Matlock, Who's the Boss?, Murder, She Wrote, Reasonable Doubts, Time Trax,
Melrose Place and Diagnosis Murder.
Ryan's stint on television was far from over as she starred in the
made-for-TV movies Coed Call Girl, Nightmare in Columbia County and NBC's
In the Line of Duty: Ambush in Waco.
As well, Jeri starred in some independent films which include The Last Man
and Men Cry Bullets.
Although Jeri's attempt at her own starring role on a television showed
did not succeed as NBC's Dark Skies was cancelled soon after its debut,
her more recent Star Trek Voyager has somewhat of a cult following. Jeri
has even signed with Paramount for another three years.
More recently, Jeri stars in Boston Public and was married to Jack Ryan
with whom she has one son, Alex. Jeri is now divorced and lives alone with
her 5-year-old son |

Jeri Ryan - Personal Quotes |
|
|
|
"He's a good man and good
father" - on her ex husband Jack Ryan who is running for US Senator
in Illinois
"There are three things pageant women do. There's the Vaseline
thing, which I didn't do. There's duct-taping your boobs, which I
never did because I'm not into pain. The third thing is using
athletic spray adhesive on your butt to keep your swimsuit in place.
I did do that. So one out of three ain't bad."
On her Seven of Nine costume: "Initially, I would stay in the
costume much longer than I ended up staying in it, because it takes
about twenty minutes to get into. Someone has to dress me and
undress me. It's a production break if I have to get out of the
costume to use the rest room or something. It grinds to a halt
unless they can shoot something without me, which typically they
can't, if it's a scene that I'm in. So, in the interest of being a
team player, the first season, I would not take rest room breaks, I
just didn't drink anything on set, which is not the healthiest thing
to do."
"When I started out on Voyager, they had to tell me everything about
Star Trek, because I knew nothing about it. I had never seen the
original series, I had never seen The Next Generation. I think I'd
seen a couple of episodes here and there - of the original series,
probably. Never seen Voyager. Didn't know what a Borg was. They gave
me a copy of First Contact, the movie, so I could at least see what
a Borg was. They also gave me a copy of the Big Star Trek
encyclopedia, whatever it is, so that I could bone up on my Star
Trek knowledge. Fortunately, it sort of worked for the character
that I wouldn't know any of the back stories of the people on
Voyager, because she was coming in cold, like I was. That was
actually helpful as opposed to detrimental." |
